Real Madrid - Borusia Dortmund

Update

The Bundesliga side survived an early onslaught by Jose Mourinho's men to hold onto their 4-1 first-leg advantage for most of the game – and had several chances to make the aggregate score even more humiliating for the wasteful hosts.

However, goals from Karim Benzema and Sergio Ramos in the last 10 minutes suddenly set up the most frantic of finishes, but Dortmund hung on to clinch their first final berth since 1997, when they defeated Juventus 3-1 to win the trophy.

Angel Di Maria, benched for the first leg, started for the hosts, while Cristiano Ronaldo also returned after he was rested with a thigh complaint for the Madrid derby victory over the weekend.

Dortmund’s line-up picked itself, with Jurgen Klopp restoring the likes of Marco Reus and Ilkay Gundogan after resting his regulars during Saturday’s Bundesliga win over Fortuna Dusseldorf.

Mourinho’s men knew the magnitude of the task at hand, and their start to the match was suitably relentless. Gonzalo Higuain could have opened the scoring four minutes in, but his shot from Mesut Ozil’s pass was right at Roman Weidenfeller.

Madrid sent a series of warnings Dortmund’s way, but the Germans showed a glimpse of what they were capable of when Gundogan’s clip found Robert Lewandowski completely unmarked for a half-volley right at Diego Lopez.

However, Ronaldo immediately mirrored the chance at the other end, forcing Weidenfeller into a close range block, before Mesut Ozil somehow dragged wide when put clean through.

The visitors were then handed a huge blow just before the quarter hour mark, when Mario Gotze limped off clutching his hamstring and was replaced by Kevin Grosskreutz.

There was enough action in the first 15 minutes to fill an entire half of football, but after weathering the initial storm, Dortmund regained their composure and slowed things down – exactly what Madrid did not want.

In fact, the remainder of the half was rather monotonous by comparison, leaving Mourinho with plenty to ponder over the break.

But Madrid’s half-time plans were almost wrecked minutes after the restart, had Lewandowski kept his cool when Grosskreutz cleverly found him unmarked inside the box, instead of blasting the ball into orbit.

The Pole nearly made instant amends when latching onto Reus’ slipped pass, sprinting in behind and lashing at goal, but the ball cannoned off the underside of the bar.

There was only one side that looked like scoring and it was not the team that needed three goals to progress. The quietly impressive Reus teed up Gundogan with a virtually open goal, but somehow, Lopez recovered to make an unbelievable save.

Lewandowski missed from eight yards before Madrid finally showed signs of life in the second half, but true to form, Di Maria stroked wide of the far post from just inside the box, before Ronaldo poked over from a similarly promising position.

But substitute Benzema would give the hosts a glimmer of hope with seven minutes remaining, side-footing in from close range after Kaka teed up Ozil for the cross from the right.

And it got even better for the Spanish side when Ramos smashed the ball home from Benzema's layoff with two minutes plus stoppage time left in the game.

But with the home fans roaring them on, Madrid could not go that last step further as Dortmund survived a few late scares to edge over the finish line.

Now the only question that remains is whether Wembley will be an all-German affair, with Bayern Munich well on their way to taking the Bundesliga’s most high-profile rivalry onto the biggest stage of them all.

Zaneti : I would return even for a match

Zanetti: I would return even for one match

Inter captain Javier Zanetti hopes to play "at least once more" for the club after his campaign was brought to an abrupt end on Sunday.

The Nerazzurri star picked up an Achilles tendon injury during his side's 0-1 defeat at Palermo, effectively ruling him out for the remainder of the campaign.

And despite his age, the the 39-year-old is eager to recover and get back into action, even if it will only be for one match.

"I'd like to at least play once more in front of my fans. And I hope it's more than one," he toldInter channel.

"My aim is to recover, undergo physio with the medical staff, which is the one of the best around. Then, when I feel better, I'll try to return to action."

Inter currently sit seventh in Serie A, and Zanetti stressed that he will give his full support to the team in their push to finish in a European spot for next term.

"I'll be an extra fan and I'm sure they'll give everything to secure a spot in the Europa League."./Goal.com

Chelsea swoop for Barcelona starlet

Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign 16-year-old Barcelona starlet Josimar Quintero at the end of the season, with the Liga leaders braced to lose several promising talents to the Premier League.

The Ecuadorian attacking midfielder has told the Spanish club that he will not be taking up their offer of a senior contract, which will enable him to join Roman Abramovich's outfit this summer for a nominal fee.

A fast and direct creator of chances from wide or central positions, Josimar joins defender Julio Pleguezuelo in the latest exodus of Barcelona's youngsters.

Pleguezuelo, a player in the mould of Carles Puyol, has already told staff at Barca that he is leaving for Arsenal in the summer, while 16-year-old forward Sergi Canos is actively encouraging offers from English sides.

Canos, one of three Barca players called up by Spain for an international tournament against France, Italy and the Czech Republic in April, has been pursued by Liverpool and Tottenham. Like Josimar and Pleguezuelo, the striker has made it clear to his English suitors that financial terms significantly superior to those on offer at Camp Nou will convince him to move abroad.

The players' first professional contract offers a window for Premier League sides to take advantage of Barcelona's much-admired academy programme. Fifa rules prevent individuals under the age of 16 from moving overseas except under special circumstances, but also bar academies from signing their best graduates to long-term professional contracts until they have reached that age.

Should a club from another European league wish to offer them an alternative deal at 16 they must only pay the developing side Fifa-mandated compensation in lieu of a transfer fee. The maximum sum due for for a player who has spent four years in a “Category 1” club such as Barcelona is €360,000.

Scouting then poaching youngsters from Barca's Under-16s has become a common strategy for the Premier League's more affluent clubs. Arsenal targeted Cesc Fabregas in 2003, rapidly turning him into a regular first-team player and eventually making him their captain before he forced a Camp Nou return for €41 million eight years later. Gerard Pique joined Manchester United in 2004, returning to Catalunya four seasons later for €6m

Bayern Munich 6-1 Wolfsburg: Treble still on for rampant Bavarians

Germany, Cup, FC Bayern Munich vs. VfL Wolfsburg, Xherdan Shaqiri
With the Bundesliga title secured and a massive Champions League semi-final with Barcelona on the horizon, Bayern hosted Wolfsburg on Tuesday evening still in the hunt for an historic treble. Despite resting the likes of Franck Ribery, there was no let-up from the Bavarians as they went straight on the offensive, hungry for victory in the semi-final.

With just a handful of minutes on the clock, Die Roten almost opened the scoring. An intelligent pass from Arjen Robben opened the right flank for Phillipp Lahm, and the Bayern captain fired low into the box. Bastian Schweinsteiger was on hand to meet the ball, and his first-time effort slipped agonisingly past the near post. It would not be long, however, before the hosts were on target.

Despite matching the champions across the field, Wolfsburg always looked vulnerable when their rivals countered; and it was a swift break that yielded the first goal. Xerdan Shaqiri held on to the ball just long enough to release Robben on the overlap, and the Dutchman's pass was met by Mario Mandzukic who smashed into the roof of the net to give his side the perfect start. Shaqiri was on form; with 35 minutes gone, the Switzerland international capped another break to play in Robben, and the provider turned scorer as he deftly chipped past Diego Benaglio to double the lead.

Wolfsburg did not despair after falling two behind, and stepped up their efforts to come back into the game. Naldo saw a header fly just wide of the post, before Vierinha broke through and was only thwarted by a strong save from Manuel Neuer. On the stroke of half time, the visitors got what they were looking for. Taking the ball on the edge of the area, Diego chose to go alone and hit a wonderful strike that gave Neuer no chance, cutting Bayern's advantage and giving Wolfsburg a lifeline for the second 45 minutes.

Europa League

What do FC Basel need to do to get into the next round of the Europa League? Beat Tottenham Hotspur, of course. That feat sounds far more straightforward this week than it did last -- their visit to White Hart Lane saw the Swiss side grab two vital away goals and outplay the Londoners in a 2-2 draw, and perhaps more importantly, included injuries to both Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon.
Oh, and Basel have won four straight Europa League games at St. Jakob-Park. If Tottenham were the favourites to get to the semifinals before the first kick, that's surely changed now.
Expect an exciting match. The first leg was absurd, a high-paced affair featuring questionable defending but relentless attacking and for a while it seemed like Basel would be able to run away with the whole thing, only for Spurs to haul themselves right back into contention with goals from Emmanuel Adebayor and Gylfi Sigurdsson. The much-maligned Adebayor now has goals in each of his last two appearances, and with much of Tottenham's firepower on the front lines, they'll be relying on him more than ever.

Juventus - Bayern

Newly-crowned Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich will travel to Turin boasting a 2-0 lead from the first leg in Germany last Tuesday, a result that ended Juventus’ hugely impressive 18-match unbeaten run in European competition. Goals from David Alaba and Thomas Muller handed the Germans a comfortable win at the Allianz Arena, but the margin of victory was kind on the Italian outfit after Bayern were guilty of wasting several chances to extend that lead.

Galatasaray - Real Madrid

Fatih Terim’s men face a daunting task at home against Real Madrid as they hope to secure a place in the Champions League semi finals
After getting bashed at the Santiago Bernabeu in what was tagged a mismatch in the first leg quarter finals of Europe’s biggest club football tournament, Turkish giants Galatasaray will attempt a comeback against Real Madrid who seems to home and dry for a place in the Semi-final.

Not minding this daunting task, Fatih Terim will be counting on home supports to mark one of the greatest comebacks in Champions League history and are 7/2(4.50) shot at Ladbrokes to record a win against Jose Mourinho’s team and at long odds of 66/1 (67.00) to qualify for the semi finals, a feat they have not achieved for over 25 years.
For the visitors, they will have their hands full against the homers who will be backed by a hostile crowd at the Turk Telekom Arena inIstanbul. They come into this game with less pressure having done the necessary damage in Spain a week ago and are favorites to silence their hosts at  8/11 (1.72) and a mouth watering 1/500 (1.00), with the draw priced at 11/4 (3.75).
WithMadrid’s form in this season’s tourney, they look spectacular with 12 matches unbeaten run to show for their exploits. Indeed, of the away matches played this term, they have only lost time against Borussia Dortmund ofGermany.

Having netted in almost all their games in the Champions League, Madrid look likely to continue their goal scoring run on Tuesday afternoon, and backing them to goal crazy at23/20 (2.15).
Galatasaray are still fresh from their 3-1 spanking of Mersin Idmanyurdu in the Super Liga at the weekend, the Turks will be hoping to put away the disappointment of the inability of Dany Nounkeu, Burak Yilmaz, Engin Baytar and Aydyn Yylmaz to crush Los Blancos which looks unlikely, given the fact they only boast of a solitary home win in this season’s tourney.
The last time both met at this venue was in the 2000/2001 season when Galacticos were downed 3-2 in the quarter final first leg. Given their propensity for scoring at home, backing them to win both halves at 15/1 (16.00) might just be a shrewd move.
Mourinho will have no cause to worry in Turkey as they chase their a record setting 24th appearance in European competitions semi finals because they have no injury worries except for the absence of Xabi Alonso and Sergio Ramos who are out on card offences.
Cristiano Ronaldo who leads the goal scorers chart with 9 goals from as many games is tipped available at 3/1 (4.00) to become the night’s first goal scorer and 8/13 (1.61) to score at anytime while Ivorien talisman, Didier Drogba who got a brace a the weekend is at 7/1 (8.00) to score first and 9/4(3.35) to score at anytime.

Inter - Atalanta

Inter strolled to a 2-0 win over Sampdoria in Wednesday's rescheduled fixture, after the original clash was postponed due to snow. The scorer of both goals?Rodrigo Palacio. Unfortunately, the following day Palacio succumbed to a thigh strain and will now be out for up to a month, joining Inter's impressively long injury list alongside fellow Argentine goal machine Diego Milito. This leaves a conundrum forAndrea Stramaccioni as he now only has Antonio Cassano, who is far from an out-and-out goalscorer, and Tommaso Rocchi, who has not scored in Serie A for 14 months, as his two senior strikers.

Benfica - Newcastle

Newcastle’s curious love-hate relationship with this season’s Europa League continues with a trip to face in-form Benfica. Despite the Toon’s impressive run in the competition, manager Alan Pardew lambasted the packed schedule following the club’s heavy 4-0 Premier League defeat to Manchester City last weekend. Newcastle have suffered badly with injury worries throughout the season, and Pardew blamed the ongoing fitness crisis at St James’ Park directly on their continued participation in this competition.
Those injury struggles have seen Newcastle struggle considerably in domestic competition, and Newcastle currently sit just three points above the dreaded relegation zone. In stark contrast, their opponents are enjoying a prosperous campaign. As well as progressing to the Europa League quarter-finals, Jorge Jesus’ men currently occupy top spot in the Portuguese Primeira Liga and have also reached the semi-finals of their domestic cup competition.
Benfica have netted an impressive 102 goals already this term, six of which came during their thrashing of Rio Ave on Saturday, and Paraguayan frontman Oscar Cardozo has been in lethal form of late, scoring three in his last four outings.

Real Madrid - Galatasaray Malaga - B.Dortmund

Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho rested key players at the weekend including the likes of Xabi Alonso, Angel Di Maria and Mesut Ozil - all are set to return.
Teenage sensation Raphael Varane and full-back Fabio Coentrao also missed the game against Real Zaragoza with slight injuries, and are expected to return to the line-up.
However, Madrid legend Iker Casillas will be sitting on the bench after not fully recovering from a hand injury, which means Diego Lopez will start in goal.
Former Bolton striker Johan Elmander is in the Galatasaray squad as he recovers from a foot injury which has seen the Sweden international out for two months.
Didier Drogba will spearhead the Turkish side's attack and Mourinho will know all about him after their time at Chelsea, but the Portuguese should be wary of Burak Yilmaz who is the joint top scorer in the competition.
